Installed ranges by city, what pushes a job to the top of the band, and the two costs people forget.
The range, and why it is that wide
Installed in Oregon, hardwood, installed runs roughly $7 to $24 a square foot, materials and labor together.
Prefinished oak strip in a straightforward rectangular room sits near the bottom of that band. Wide-plank white oak, site-finished, over a subfloor that had to be levelled first, sits near the top — and a herringbone or chevron layout adds materially to labor because of the cutting and the waste.
The two costs people forget are the cut-and-waste allowance — around 8% on a straight layout, considerably more on a diagonal — and acclimation. Hardwood has to sit in the room it is going into, at the humidity it will live at, before it goes down. Skipping that is how you get gaps in February.
